In
writing and compiling this Diary, I would like to acknowledge the following
people:
Firstly, my son, Mark, for accompanying me on
this great adventure between 1978 to 1991. Many times, when we were in difficult
situations, he sorted out some of the problems that arose. Not only is he my
son, but my best mate, always there when I need him. I appreciate his help in
compiling this Diary.
Secondly, my dear wife, Margaret. What can I
say about her? There are not many men around, allowed to have a love affair with
a mountain! From my early days, when I walked the fells alone, right up to the
present time, she has been so understanding and tolerant of me, and has
supported me in fulfilling my dream to achieve my goals. Also, she has been so
helpful in many other ways, such as washing and ironing our clothes, and making
our sandwiches and providing our flasks. These may seem like little things to
some folk, but they are very much appreciated by us both. As I have said to her
many times, "One day, you’ll be rewarded." Her reply was always,
"When???" My beloved Margaret passed away in September 2000. This
diary is now a tribute to her...
Thirdly, my daughter-in-law, Nicky. She joined
our family in 1996 so missed out on all of the early walks which Mark and I have
undertaken. I would like to thank her for the helpful contribution she has made
in compiling this Diary, editing my original manuscripts, dotting the I’s and
crossing the T’s.
And finally, I would like to thank you for
taking the time to read this Diary. I hope you will enjoy reading about our
exploits as much as we enjoyed experiencing them.
I think that writing about the walks was more
hard work then actually walking them!
Best-regards
Peter Farnworth
